Wind energy plays a crucial role as a source of renewable energy in Brazil, thanks to its vast coastline and constant winds in various regions. During the 2023 Brazilian Distributed Generation Congress (CBGD), Elbia Gannoum, president of the Brazilian Wind Energy and New Technologies Association (ABEE\u00f3lica), emphasized the relevance of the renewable industry for the country, including wind energy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gannoum explained that wind and solar energy are the energy sources that have grown the most in the world in the last 5 to 10 years and will continue to grow in the future. The energy transition necessarily depends on these sources, in addition to biomass and existing hydroelectric power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wind energy has made a name for itself in large-scale generation. <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Although there are distributed generation systems, it is the larger plants that are currently gaining prominence. This is due to the cost of investment, as smaller turbines are still very expensive, making it difficult to achieve sufficient scale to provide residential energy. Gannoum also mentioned that the wind that produces wind energy is much stronger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gannoum pointed out that wind energy emerged in the country around 2006 and has grown over the last 10 years. She also mentioned that 80% of large wind turbines for power plants can be manufactured in Brazil. This is possible because the country has a well-established national wind energy<\/a> production chain, with more than 40 companies operating in the sector. Among the domestic components produced are towers, nacelles and blades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The outlook for the energy transition and the growth of large-scale wind farms is very positive. Brazil has the potential to become one of the world leaders in wind turbine production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gannoum concluded by saying that, looking at current investments and contracts, installed capacity will reach more than 50 GW by 2029. However, the trend is for this figure to be even higher. As GDP picks up again, there will be more demand for energy and more projects installed. She predicts a breakthrough around 2027-28 with the arrival of green hydrogen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
